ArtTalk: A Fresh Look - big update for web site and blog about art, color, and design!

Welcome to ArtTalk and the new web site for Barbara Jacobs Fine Art.
Over the many years (since 1985) that I've been involved in the world of art and design, there have been many aspects to my work and variations in the related explorations. I wanted to make this first blog post a quick introduction for you to the person who is behind the work you see in this site. 

"Back in the day..." when "Faux Finishes" were a happening thing, I loved doing all types of surface design and color installations in residential and commercial settings. From simple glazing to Venetian Plaster and even murals and painted furniture and textiles, there was always so much to design, develop, and share, extending even into the realm of developing a collaborative collection of full spectrum paint colors that I called "EcoHues" (created with www.ellenkennon.com) to a series of surface finishes I called "The Metropolitan Collection," a collaborative venture created with another fine finishing artist, where we invented over 150 different colorways of a variety of finishes, that could be ordered and accurately specified from our small visual sample sets.  Other enjoyable creative activities came about also, even designing a group of recycled glass tiles that I offered in unique combinations.

Much of my work has been on the smaller side, but lately I've explored doing some relatively larger paintings.

But all these ventures over the years had a central core focus as the inspiration: Color. Phasing from deep involvement in physical products and applied techniques, I held a fascination with our human response to color. Some call this "applied color psychology." I discovered, and studied with, the International Association of Color Consultants (iaccna.com). After a four year period of study, in 1996 I was awarded a diploma in that field, from the IACC (now called the IACCNA). My thesis was a project studying the use of —and results of applying—color in an elementary school setting.

Since then, I've actively continued my professional work as an architectural color consultant/designer (www.bjacobscolordesign.com). But doing my own artwork has always been in the background. Having a fine arts background in the first place, an artistic approach has always been at the core of my professional work in any area. Now, it's happily at the forefront of my activities in developing and sharing my personal artwork in a variety of media.

Having web sites over the years has always been important to me as a way to help communicate with people about art, color, design...and how we can enjoy them all wherever we live and work. Creating blog posts about all of those topics has been a pleasure that I look forward to continuing and sharing. As you explore this new web site you'll see where my somewhat eclectic, 'mixed media' approach comes from.
