Representing William Saltzman

Announcing a new retrospective exhibit

The Peace Gallery, Damariscotta, Maine

William Saltzman: 7/9/1916 - 3/18/2006.
Invited by the estate of  William Saltzman, I am delighted to represent a rare variety of his paintings, prints and drawings for your viewing pleasure and purchasing opportunities for his original works and high quality posters of selected work.

Minneapolis-born artist William Saltzman's commissions illuminate churches and adorn institutions throughout the Twin Cities and Midwest region. As an artist, Saltzman refused to be defined by a single medium. He designed stained-glass windows, fashioned copper reliefs, and worked in a variety of two dimensional media. During World War II, he was a member of the U.S. Army Camouflage unit in the European theatre. A professor at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota for 17 years, Saltzman also taught at other colleges throughout the midwest, retiring from active teaching at Macalester in 1983 as Professor Emeritus.

His artistic subject matter ranged from landscapes and figures to abstractions, in Oil paintings, Watercolors, Pastels, Sculpture, and Mixed Media. Saltzman's sculpture and stained-glass work in public spaces is well known, and his work is also enjoyed by owners in many private collections internationally.

Throughout his life, Saltzman was fascinated by the interplay of light, color, shape and texture. His work exemplifies his exploration and mastery of these elements. Saltzman often said, "The principles of art apply to all media. When followed, an artist can transcend any physical limitations of a particular medium."
