My own version of the traditional Japanese "Katazome" process of dyeing kimono fabric.

Starting with designing and cutting a stencil on traditional Mulberry Bark paper, and mixing/using a "rice paste resist" mixture, the resist is applied through the cut-out shapes in the stencil. When it was dry, either dye (for the fabric) or paint (in this case, on the Arches paper), was applied and allowed to dry. Then I washed all the paste and paint off the paper, placed the wet paper between blotters, and waited! Removing that was always surprising. After that, I did some selective overpainting and...here are the two remaining pieces from that time.
